Four questions to ask before signing
The order is not accidental — most common source of disputes first.
- What is the excess on damage? Not "is it insured", but the actual figure.
- Who pays for servicing, tyres and insurance? A sensible fleet takes this on; if it does not, count it as an extra weekly cost.
- What is the mileage limit and what does exceeding it cost? At 3000 km a week, a "2500 km" limit means a surcharge every week.
- May I also work for another fleet? If not, you are tied to one firm and its settlement terms.
Collection day: ten minutes that protect your deposit
Deposit disputes almost always come down to whether a scratch was there before or after. What settles it is the documentation from collection day, not goodwill.
- Photograph all four sides, the roof, the wheels and the interior — in daylight.
- Photograph the odometer and the fuel level.
- Record a short walk-around video — a dent shows on video far better than in a still.
