Renting a Porsche Cayenne: the SUV for a longer term

Renting a Porsche Cayenne in Poland costs 700–1,300 zł a day, 4,000–7,500 zł a week and 12,000–20,000 zł a month, with a deposit of 3,000–10,000 zł. The V6 does 9–11 l/100 km on a motorway, which is a reasonable figure for a car this size.
The Cayenne earns its place on a rental list for a different reason from most cars at the price. It is not the impression it makes — it is that this is the only SUV of its size that does not wear you out over four hours of motorway, and does not make you plan every parking space in town.

The versions differ by more than a badge
The base V6, 340 hp does everything anyone wants from a Cayenne and returns 9–11 l/100 km on a motorway. The S and GTS add power, noise and 30–40% to the daily rate. The Turbo is a separate price category and a separate consumption category.
Over a week or more, the gap between the base car and the S runs into thousands of złoty — and for ninety per cent of the time they drive the same.
Where the Cayenne wins
The way it steers. This is an SUV built around how it answers the wheel, and after two hours on the road the difference from cars that were simply raised up and declared finished is obvious.
The second argument is the cabin over a long hire. Seats, quietness and the driving position are details for one day and the only thing that matters over three weeks.
What not to do
- Don't take the Turbo "because the difference is small". The difference is small on the rate, not on the fuel. Over a month it is several thousand złoty.
- Don't ignore the mileage cap. On a monthly hire, 2,000–3,000 km runs out sooner than you think, and the overage is 1.50–3 zł a kilometre.
- Don't assume 21-inch wheels are safe. They are, right up until they meet a kerb.
